Signal Point at the Cumberland Trail Head (Signal Mountain)

From Signal Point

Fun and easy little park to find. The Cumberland Trail that is located in the park is very difficult for small children (especially when there is snow and ice under foot) but the park leading up to the trail head is a nice place to spend a few hours and burn energy. We will save the trail for warmer days : )

"Go West" he said.

More life lessons from Fred Rogers

None of us is exactly like anyone else, but one thing we have in common is our humanity, our very natural, understandable desire to know that at least somebody, onebody, thinks there's something special about us, something worth caring about.

~ Fred Rogers

I fell off the peace wagon yesterday. I am back on today. My children pulled me back on : ) My children care about me and that is such a comfort. I am doing a good job! I am raising caring compassionate people who want others to feel good about themselves.

Anger is a difficult feeling for most people- painful to feel and hard to express. It can help us and our children to remind ourselves that having angry feelings is a part of being human. Whether we like it or not. It's just a fact that lovable people get angry sometimes. We can't expect our children to never be angry, any more than we can ask that of ourselves, but we can help them find healthy outlets for the anger they feel - and help them know the good feeling that comes with self-control.

Snow day

When we know care is there, life can seem well worth living, even with the ups and downs of our ever-changing world.

When the gusty winds blow and shake our lives, if we know that there are people who care about us, we may bend with the wind - but we won't break.

New Year Glitter

What you'll need:

Epsom salt
food coloring
glue
card stock

Mix desired amount of salt with food coloring - this is the fun part and a little goes a long way. Mix colored salt for a fun color combo - mix food coloring for a new color, mix, mix mix.
Mix salt and coloring until all the crystals are coated.

Next, and this is pretty fun too, dribble pretty designs on the card stock with the glue.
Sprinkle the salt glitter over the glue.
Keep a pan or bowl handy to catch the extra glitter.
Fold the paper in half and make a pretty card or keep it full size for pretty refrigerator art. It's pretty enough to frame and hang on the wall too : )
. . .of course you will need to let it dry first.
What fun!
